Nasir El-Rufai dismissed being labeled a fundamentalist, insisting critics misunderstand his leadership and governance style.
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has dismissed suggestions that he is a religious fundamentalist, saying such views are held by people who do not know him.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, El-Rufai said, “I don’t care. The people that think I am a fundamentalist don’t know me, they have never met me, they have formed their opinion.”
He added that his critics are hostile because he is indifferent to their views. “Frankly, the reason why my enemies are very vehement at hating me is because I don’t care what they think. It’s the way I am,” he stated.
On allegations that his leadership style showed hostility to Southern Kaduna, El-Rufai said, “They can think what they think. I don’t tolerate nonsense, governance is not a joke.”
The former governor said his administration cut waste, enforced laws fairly, and stopped irregular practices, stressing that even close associates from Southern Kaduna knew such claims were false.
