Nasir El-Rufai has openly criticised President Tinubu’s administration, calling it a “tragedy” and predicting his defeat in 2027.
Former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai has criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu, accusing it of inflicting widespread hardship on Nigerians and vowing to help unseat the president in 2027.
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV on Monday, El-Rufai described Tinubu’s government as underperforming and lacking direction.
“Look at his cabinet—it’s a joke. It is the largest in Nigeria’s history, and maybe only five of them can be called real ministers,” he said. “We brought a tragedy upon Nigeria.”
El-Rufai expressed regret for supporting Tinubu, citing a stark contrast with his earlier legacy in Lagos. “I supported him because I believed in his Lagos legacy… But now… this?”
“I feel like I owe Nigeria a duty to correct this mistake,” he added. “I cannot rest knowing that I helped bring in a government that is hurting Nigerians.”
He confirmed ongoing efforts to form a coalition of opposition leaders aimed at defeating Tinubu in the 2027 election.
