Elon Musk endorsed Andrew Cuomo ahead of the New York City mayoral election, joining other billionaires opposing Zohran Mamdani’s candidacy.
Elon Musk has thrown his support behind former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in the city’s mayoral race, one day before voters head to the polls, according to DNYUZ reporting.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO urged New Yorkers to vote for Cuomo, who is running as an independent against Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani. Musk argued that supporting GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa would indirectly help Mamdani.
“Bear in mind that a vote for Curtis is really a vote for Mumdumi or whatever his name is. VOTE CUOMO!” Musk wrote on X on Monday.
Musk’s endorsement aligns him with several billionaires opposing Mamdani’s candidacy, including former Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Airbnb cofounder Joe Gebbia, and hedge fund manager Bill Ackman. Reports indicate that some of them have poured millions into the race.
President Donald Trump also voiced support for Cuomo in a “60 Minutes” interview with CBS News, saying, “If it’s gonna be between a bad Democrat and a communist, I’m gonna pick the bad Democrat all the time, to be honest with you.”
The mayoral election is scheduled for Tuesday.
