Elon Musk says Trump’s $1.4 trillion bill increases the U.S. deficit and undermines his government efficiency team’s work on debt reduction.

Elon Musk has expressed disappointment with former President Donald Trump’s proposed $1.4 trillion spending bill, calling it a threat to U.S. fiscal responsibility.

In a preview of a CBS interview airing Sunday, Musk said the legislation undercuts the efforts of his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which focuses on reducing the national debt.

“So, you know, I was like, disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not decrease it and undermines the work the DOGE team is doing,” Musk said.

When asked whether the bill invalidates previous budget efforts, Musk added: “I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful. But I don’t know if it can be both. My personal opinion.”

The bill includes tax cuts, exemptions for U.S. auto loan interest, and a $1,000 “MAGA Savings Account” for newborns. Passed by the House 215–214, the bill faces resistance in the Senate. Senator Rick Scott said he would vote against it, citing deficit concerns: “There’s not a chance it would get to 51 votes.”
