Suspended Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara may regain his position ahead of schedule after a private meeting with President Tinubu in London.
Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, may be considering political concessions to regain office, following a private meeting with President Bola Tinubu in London.
The meeting, confirmed by The Africa Report, marked their first face-to-face since Tinubu declared emergency rule in Rivers on March 18, 2025, citing “months of intense political instability.”
“It is true. Governor Fubara held a private meeting with the president last week. Fubara has promised to make some compromises,” a senior presidential adviser told the publication.
Sources say Fubara may defect to the ruling APC to strengthen ties with the presidency. “If Fubara joins the APC, it means the president’s chances of winning Rivers State are much higher,” another aide noted.
The six-month suspension imposed on Fubara may now end before September.
The crisis stems from a prolonged power struggle between Fubara and ex-governor Nyesom Wike. Talks are ongoing, with Tinubu expected to meet all stakeholders, including Wike, to broker a lasting resolution.
