A coalition of civil society groups has defended NNPCL boss Bayo Ojulari, warning that vested interests want to derail reforms and revive fuel scarcity.
A Coalition of Civil Society for Energy Reform (CCSER) has cautioned against attempts to undermine reforms at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), warning that such efforts could trigger a return of fuel scarcity.
Convener Mallam Awaal Dairu, in a Wednesday statement, said recent media attacks on Mr. Bayo Ojulari were orchestrated by “entrenched cabals” threatened by reforms.
“It is a dangerous plot not only against an individual but against the stability of Nigeria’s energy sector and the credibility of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.
The group urged President Bola Tinubu to continue backing Ojulari, noting his merit-based leadership had restored investor confidence and ended contract patronage.
“By all measurable standards, Mr. Ojulari remains one of the best-performing appointees,” CCSER added.
