We are tired of burying our young ones and we say enough is enough… On Friday, we buried 27 of our fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, and children who were killed by the Fulani militias in Jebbu Bindi community
On July 28, Plateau State youth leaders sounded a desperate alarm after gunmen reportedly killed more than 300 people and displaced around 50,000 others over the past 90 days. The violence has fuelled mounting frustration as communities continue to bury loved ones amid what they describe as widespread government inaction.
Comrade Dauda Dung, a youth leader in Riyom Local Government Area, recounted recent mass casualties: “On Friday, we buried 27 of our fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, and children who were killed by the Fulani militias in Jebbu Bindi community… We are tired of burying our young ones and we say enough is enough.”
According to Barrister Solomon Dalyop, national president of the Berom Youth Moulders, security forces have repeatedly failed to respond. “We will keep questioning the failure of security personnel to act… we call on the government to respond urgently… They are not spirits. They do not operate alone. There are sponsors behind them…”
Dalyop further criticised military reluctance during attacks: “The attack in Jebbu Bindi happened very close to their outpost but despite frantic calls by the victims, the soldiers did not respond…” He accused security agencies of dereliction of duty and called for swift investigation and prosecution to restore hope.
