Residents of Umumba Ndiagu in Ezeagu LGA, Enugu, were thrown into chaos Tuesday after youths uncovered underground pits allegedly used by a native doctor, Levi Onyeka Obu, aka “Ezeani,” to bury victims alive for rituals.
Angry community members stormed Ezeani’s compound after he was allegedly caught abducting a 13-year-old girl. She recounted, “They grabbed me and kept me in a pit… I started crying, and the Neighborhood Watch operatives heard my cry and came to rescue me.”

Police confirmed rescuing the girl and recovering two bodies. Spokesman SP Daniel Ndukwe said, “Three suspects were arrested… the prime suspect fled but remains wanted.”
A man claiming to be Ezeani’s guard admitted visiting the compound for rituals, saying, “Daddy Ezeani asked me to protect this place.”
The Enugu government has since demolished the property. Commissioner of Police Mamman Bitrus Giwa praised the rescue efforts and ordered a full manhunt.
Authorities urge anyone with information to report to aid justice.
