Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca admitted his team fell short after their 2-1 Premier League defeat to Sunderland.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has conceded that his side was “not good enough” after a 2-1 defeat to Sunderland in Saturday’s Premier League clash.
The Blues had a chance to climb to second place with a win and made a bright start when Alejandro Garnacho opened scoring within five minutes with a solo effort. However, Wilson Isidor equalised for Sunderland in the 22nd minute, before Chemsdine Talbi struck a stoppage-time winner to seal the upset.
Speaking after the game, Maresca said: “In general, we were not good enough. When you are not good enough in the Premier League, we know that the consequence can be a bad one.”
He also criticised his side’s defending, noting that the decisive moments came from basic errors. “The first goal came from a throw in… But overall, I think we were not good enough,” Maresca added.
