A lawyer has filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to stop former President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting the 2027 presidential election.

A lawyer, Mr. Johnmary Chukwukasi Jideobi, has filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja asking for an order restraining former President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting the 2027 presidential election.

In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2102/2025, Jideobi urged the court to bar the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting or publishing Jonathan’s name as a candidate for the poll. The Attorney-General of the Federation was also listed as a defendant.

The plaintiff argued that Jonathan, having completed the unexpired term of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and served a full four-year term after the 2011 election, had reached the constitutional limit of two tenures.

He asked the court to declare Jonathan ineligible to contest again and to issue an injunction preventing any party from nominating him.

No date has been fixed for the hearing of the suit.
