Ex-presidential aide accuses Otedola of profiting from fuel subsidy

“Rather than feigning moral superiority, Otedola should come clean,” Sani said.

Umar Sani, a former presidential aide to ex-Vice-President Namadi Sambo, has accused billionaire businessman Femi Otedola of rewriting history in his recent remarks on Nigeria’s fuel subsidy regime.

Otedola had alleged that over N2 trillion was siphoned through fraudulent subsidy claims under former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, describing the system as riddled with corruption.

Reacting via his X handle, Sani said the subsidy “predates Jonathan and lasted decades,” noting that it ran under Obasanjo, Yar’Adua, Jonathan, and Buhari “with even greater opacity.”

He accused Otedola of benefitting from the same regime, pointing out that Zenon Petroleum once controlled 90 percent of diesel imports.

“Otedola himself was spotlighted during the forensic audit and the Farouk Lawan probe,” Sani said. He added: “Rather than feigning moral superiority, Otedola should come clean.”

Sani urged an independent inquiry covering all administrations, stressing that Nigerians “deserve honesty, full disclosure and historical accuracy.”
