Meta has closed a 32,000-member Facebook group in Italy accused of sharing intimate images without consent.

Meta has removed an Italian Facebook group with over 32,000 members accused of sharing intimate photos of women without consent. The group, “Mia Moglie ❤❤❤” (“My Wife”), was active since 2019 and resurfaced in May 2025, posting explicit images, some AI-generated, sparking outrage across Italy.

Feminist activist Carolina Capria called it a “virtual gang rape” in a viral post, prompting thousands of complaints. “Women’s bodies were exposed and judged without consent,” she said. Authorities reported 2,800 complaints, while consumer group Codacons threatened legal action against Meta for inaction.

Meta cited violations of its sexual exploitation policy, stating, “We do not allow content that threatens or promotes sexual violence.” Legal experts warned offenders could face up to six years in prison under Italy’s revenge porn and privacy laws.

Activists warn the takedown is not the end, as similar groups may still exist on Facebook, Telegram, and other platforms.
