Kirk shooting suspect Tyler Robinson has registered as nonpartisan voter, records show
The suspect in the assassination of conservative activist and influencer Charlie Kirk has in the past registered as a nonpartisan voter in Utah, public records show.
Tyler Robinson, 22 years old, has two parents registered as Republicans. Roughly half of Utah voters are Republicans, while about a quarter are unaffiliated voters.
Is Tyler Robinson, the suspect in custody for the shooting of Charlie Kirk, a Republican? No, that’s not true: Voter registration records in Utah show he chose to vote neither as a Democrat nor as a Republican. He registered as “Unaffiliated.”
The claim appeared in a September 12, 2025 Facebook post (archived here) on the whitesarahh account under the title:
Registered republican
This is what the post looked like on Facebook at the time of writing:
In order to verify that we had located the correct voter registration profile, Lead Stories needed Robinson’s birthdate and mailing address.
His birthdate we found on a post on his mother’s Facebook profile. In our screenshot of that post, her full name is obscured to protect her identity, but the photo matches images of the suspect released by police and the FBI:
An open-source online directory yielded his street address. To protect other residents at that location, Lead Stories is not disclosing it.
We typed his name, birthdate and home address into votesearch.utah.gov, an official state of Utah resource for checking voter registration that will not yield registration information unless the name, birthdate and address all match its database entry.
As seen in the screenshot below of the registration listing for him, he is registered as “Unaffiliated” and has not voted in the two latest general elections.
