AGF Lateef Fagbemi says case withdrawals against Tinubu allies are evidence-based, not politically influenced.

Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), has dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu influenced the withdrawal of corruption cases against some of his allies.

Speaking at the Ministry of Justice top management retreat in Akwa Ibom State on Friday, Fagbemi said prosecutorial decisions are based strictly on evidence. “What has the president got to do with this? These are criminal cases, and we are doing what is appropriate. Prosecution must not be weaponised,” he said.

He explained that some cases, including those involving Honeywell Chairman Oba Otudeko and former AMCON boss Ahmed Kuru, were dropped due to lack of evidence or withdrawal of complaints. “If there’s no case, there’s no need to waste government resources or the court’s time,” he added.

Fagbemi insisted the justice ministry will continue to ensure fairness, stressing that only cases with prima facie evidence would proceed.
