Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has advised Peter Obi to urgently sue Governor Okpebholo over a recent threat to his life, calling it a constitutional violation.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria and human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has urged Labour Party’s Peter Obi to take swift legal action against Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo over an alleged threat to his life.

Falana issued the call on Sunday, describing Okpebholo’s remarks as a “violation of section 33 of the 1999 Constitution” which guarantees every citizen’s right to life.

“Mr Peter Obi should proceed to file an application in the Benin Judicial Division of the Federal High Court to secure the enforcement of his fundamental right to life,” Falana stated.

He advised that Obi act urgently, citing the rise in mob justice and extrajudicial killings.

Mr Okpebholo, in a viral video, had warned that Obi’s “security will never be guaranteed” in Edo without prior notice.

Falana insisted the governor must withdraw the threat, issue a public apology, and affirm Obi’s safety in the state, noting that a governor’s primary duty is to ensure the welfare and security of citizens.
