Morgue attendants claimed police brought the body but could not identify the officers or disclose where it was recovered, leaving the family in anguish

The family of a missing Lagos banker, Osemudiamen Idemudia, has been thrown into mourning after his body was discovered in a Yaba morgue days after he vanished. The 26-year-old, who worked in a commercial bank’s Point-of-Sale department in Ikota, was last seen on May 9 in the CMS area of Lagos Island.

A relative, Segun, confirmed that the corpse was found on Sunday with deep machete cuts on the head, face, and legs. “We have found Osemudiamen’s body. He was murdered,” Segun told PUNCH Metro“The staff said police brought him, but they couldn’t tell us which station or where he was found. This makes everything more painful.”

The deceased’s father, Julius, recounted that his son had left work with a colleague for a meeting at the bank’s CMS headquarters, which was abruptly cancelled. After parting ways, Osemudiamen failed to return home. “He was supposed to board a bus to Iyana Ipaja, then Igando. When he didn’t return, we reported him missing at Igando Police Station,” Julius said.

Despite filing a report, the family spent days searching hospitals and morgues before the grim discovery. The morgue’s inability to provide details on the police officers who deposited the body has heightened suspicions.

The family buried Osemudiamen on Tuesday, heartbroken over the unanswered questions surrounding his death. Efforts to get a response from Lagos Police Spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin were unsuccessful at press time.
