Farooq Kperogi has publicly apologized to Aisha Buhari, calling his viral divorce claim a deeply regrettable lapse in judgment.
Farooq Kperogi, a professor at Kennesaw State University, has apologized to former First Lady Aisha Buhari over a false claim that she was divorced from the late former President Muhammadu Buhari. In a Facebook post on Sunday, July 20, Kperogi described the statement as “one of the worst and cruelest lapses of judgement” of his life, admitting it caused him “unfathomable personal anguish.”
“To Mrs. Aisha Buhari, I offer my heartfelt and unreserved apology for the needless and deeply regrettable hurt I have caused. I am truly sorry,” he wrote.
Though he said the source of the information was credible, Kperogi admitted, “Going public with the information was an error on my part.” He said it was former First Lady aide, Alhaji Sani Zorro, who questioned the accuracy of his claims.
“Mrs. Buhari herself has the ultimate authority… Her truth should be respected as supreme,” Kperogi added, affirming the marriage remained intact until the president’s death.
