Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has revealed that faulty intelligence led troops to wrong locations ahead of the deadly attack on Yelewata, Benue State, where over 200 people were killed. Speaking in Abuja, he said, “Troops mobilized and deployed to named communities, but on getting there, discovered the intelligence was not factual.”

General Musa alleged local informants aided the attackers by providing shelter, food, and even women. He added, “They were teleguided by some persons in that community.”

He called for urgent action to secure Nigeria’s porous borders, citing threats from the Sahel region. “Those thinking building a border fence…would be too expensive should learn from Pakistan,” he said.

Musa extended condolences to victims’ families and reiterated the military’s commitment to apprehend perpetrators, following President Bola Tinubu’s directive. He also urged communities to collaborate with security forces: “See something and report to security agencies.”
