Police in Abuja have arrested Mairiga Hassan Shaharu, a civil servant at the Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS), in connection with an ongoing leak investigation into FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s controversial land allocations.

Mr Shaharu, attached to the Fresh Applications Unit, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon, sources told Peoples Gazette. His whereabouts remain unknown as of Wednesday morning, raising concerns about potential torture.

Shaharu’s department handles new land filings, but colleagues said he had no link to the leaked documents exposing over 3,800 hectares of land—valued at $6.45 billion—allegedly allocated by Mr Wike to his sons, Jordan and Joaquin.

“He’s confused and moving fast, which is why he keeps making mistakes,” a source familiar with the minister’s recent behaviour said. “He’s been drinking even more heavily now and cursing at everybody, including his wife.”

A police spokesperson said details on the arrest would be provided later. Mr Wike’s office did not respond to requests for comment.
