The FCTA has clarified that Arise News anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu was brought in dead to Maitama Hospital after a robbery at her Abuja residence.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has clarified the circumstances surrounding the death of Arise News anchor, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, who was killed during a robbery at her Katampe residence in Abuja.
Dr Dolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary on Health, said in a statement on Monday that Maduagwu was “brought in dead” to the Maitama General Hospital at about 4:30 a.m., refuting claims that negligence by medical personnel led to her death.
Maduagwu, popularly known as Sommie, was 29. Witnesses said about 15 armed robbers stormed the 16-apartment compound around 3 a.m., shooting sporadically. Security guards raised an alarm and attempted to contact the police but allegedly received no immediate response. Maduagwu and a guard injured during the attack were rushed to hospital, but both succumbed to their injuries.
Relatives had earlier alleged that she was denied urgent care because identification documents could not be produced immediately.
FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, described her death as “tragic and painful” and commiserated with her family, colleagues, and Arise News management. He assured that a preliminary medical report would be submitted to aid police investigations, with efforts underway to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
