The goal is very simple; ensure that people have access to quality services
The Federal Government has disbursed ₦32 billion through the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) to enhance primary healthcare across Nigeria. The allocation, made in the first half of 2025, targets over 8,000 primary healthcare centres (PHCs) nationwide.
At the 11th Expanded Ministerial Oversight Committee meeting in Abuja, Coordinating Minister Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate disclosed that the funding has supported more than 37 million healthcare visits. He described it as “a critical milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward Universal Health Coverage.”
Pate reiterated the administration’s commitment under the Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative, noting that ongoing fiscal reforms aim to reduce reliance on external support. He also highlighted that among 50,000 tuberculosis patients identified, many are yet to begin treatment, though the 2025 budget addresses this concern.
Minister of State for Health, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako, said, “The involvement of civil society, coupled with improved alignment across agencies, is yielding visible impacts.”
Ekiti Health Commissioner Dr Oyebanji Filani added, “The goal is very simple; ensure that people have access to quality services and provide the commodities that are necessary.”
