“Our father’s legacy lives on. We are honoured to accept this Grammy Hall of Fame award on behalf of Fela Anikulapo Kuti.”

Legendary Afrobeat icon Fela Anikulapo Kuti has been posthumously inducted into the 2025 Grammy Hall of Fame for his 1976 album Zombie. The Recording Academy’s National Trustees established the Hall of Fame in 1973 to recognize recordings of lasting qualitative or historical importance that are at least 25 years old. Fela’s Zombie, known for its bold political commentary and rhythmic brilliance, joins this prestigious list.

Accepting the honour on behalf of the Kuti family, Fela’s eldest son, Femi Kuti, described the recognition as a significant moment. “Our father’s legacy lives on. We are honoured to accept this Grammy Hall of Fame award on behalf of Fela Anikulapo Kuti. His music continues to inspire & unite people across the world,” Femi said.

Zombie remains one of Fela’s most influential works, blending Afrobeat with elements of jazz, funk, and satire to critique military oppression and blind obedience. Decades after his passing, Fela’s work continues to resonate globally, inspiring protest movements such as #EndSARS and symbolizing resistance, cultural pride, and the enduring power of music to drive change.
