A female lecturer from the Federal University Lokoja, Mrs Kemi Emmanuel, was crushed to death by a hit-and-run articulated truck after falling from a motorcycle along the Lokoja-Abuja expressway.
Around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a fatal accident occurred on the Crusher-Felele axis of the Lokoja-Abuja expressway, when a truck reportedly struck a commercial motorcycle carrying Mrs Kemi Emmanuel, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts, Federal University Lokoja.
After the collision, the lecturer fell off the motorcycle and was crushed by the passing truck. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kogi confirmed her death and described the incident as “very sad and unfortunate.”
Mr Tenimu Etuku, FRSC Sector Commander, stated, “When the accident happened, our rescue operation team responded promptly and quickly rushed the victim to Kogi State Specialist Hospital, where she was confirmed dead.” He added, “The corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.”
Etuku criticized the conduct of the okada rider, saying the rider “zoomed off under the guise of chasing the hit-and-run truck.” He warned that okada riders should not compete with enclosed vehicles on highways to prevent such tragedies.
