Femi Kuti has advised young artists to prioritize artistry and consistency over chasing quick fame, attributing his decades-long success to creating meaningful music.

Veteran Afrobeat musician Femi Kuti has attributed his decades-long success to creating meaningful and impactful music rather than pursuing fleeting fame.

Speaking on the Afropolitan Podcast, Kuti advised young artists to focus on producing quality music that will stand the test of time. “When the head is not correct, nothing can be correct. I like what young artists are doing, but what would they do when they are 50?” he asked.

The singer said his dedication to purposeful music has sustained his relevance for over four decades. “I can proudly tell you I’m still touring… Consistency. And I have something to offer,” he said.

He cited Miles Davies and Stevie Wonder as examples of artists who stayed dedicated to their craft, adding, “Music is like medicine… they are practicing.”

Kuti warned young musicians that prioritising fame over artistry could lead to fading relevance, noting that only hard work ensures longevity.
