Senator John Fetterman has been hospitalized after suffering a fall caused by a sudden cardiac rhythm issue outside his home.

According to a report from THE SUN U.S., United States Senator John Fetterman has been rushed to the hospital after suffering a fall outside his home in Braddock, Pennsylvania. The 56-year-old Democrat reportedly stumbled during an early-morning walk and “slammed his face into the ground” following a sudden cardiac episode.

A statement released by his spokesperson on Thursday explained, “During an early morning walk, Senator Fetterman sustained a fall near his home in Braddock. Out of an abundance of caution, he was transported to a hospital in Pittsburgh.” The spokesperson added that the senator experienced a “ventricular fibrillation flare-up,” which caused him to feel lightheaded before collapsing.

Ventricular fibrillation is a dangerous cardiac rhythm that can halt blood flow, potentially leading to cardiac arrest or sudden death. Fetterman was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy in 2022, a condition that can trigger such episodes. His team confirmed he sustained “minor injuries” and is expected to recover, noting that he will remain hospitalized while doctors adjust his medication.

The incident adds to the senator’s long list of health challenges. Fetterman previously suffered a major stroke in 2022 during his campaign and later sought inpatient care for clinical depression in 2023. Reflecting on his mental health journey, he recently urged others battling depression to “stay in this game,” emphasizing that recovery is possible.
