The Federal Government has cancelled the October 1 parade for Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary but maintained other events and urged public support for President Tinubu’s reforms.
The Federal Government has cancelled the Independence Anniversary parade earlier scheduled to hold on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day. The announcement was made in a statement issued on Monday by Segun Imohiosen, Director, Information & Public Relations, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Although no reason was given for the cancellation, the government assured that it “is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary.” Imohiosen added that “all other programmes slated for the Independence Anniversary will remain in effect.”
“The Government deeply regrets any inconvenience caused by this cancellation,” the statement said, urging Nigerians, the diplomatic community and invited guests to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda.
The Independence Anniversary parade is one of the major activities under the celebration theme, “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.” The Federal Government had earlier declared Wednesday a public holiday.
