The Federal Government has dismissed reports suggesting the scrapping of the UTME, affirming that JAMB remains the sole authority for tertiary admissions in Nigeria.

The Federal Government has debunked circulating reports claiming that it had scrapped the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), reaffirming that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) remains the sole body authorised to conduct admissions into tertiary institutions across the country.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade, clarified that the ministry did not issue, approve, or authorise any announcement suggesting the abolition of the UTME or any alteration to existing admission procedures.

“For the avoidance of doubt, JAMB remains the statutory and legally empowered body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions in Nigeria,” the statement read in part.

Folasade further urged the public, prospective students, and stakeholders in the education sector to disregard misinformation spreading on social media and other online platforms. She emphasised that “the established admission processes through JAMB remain fully operational, and any contrary information should be disregarded in its entirety.”

The ministry reiterated its commitment to maintaining transparency, standardisation, and credibility in Nigeria’s tertiary education admission process.
