FG says Buhari served with “dedication, integrity, and unwavering commitment to unity.”
The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, 15 July 2025, a public holiday in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday in London after a prolonged illness.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued by the ministry on Monday following approval by President Bola Tinubu.
“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation. This public holiday provides an opportunity for all Nigerians to reflect on his life, leadership, and the values he upheld,” the minister said.
The holiday aligns with the seven-day period of national mourning declared earlier. The government also directed that flags be flown at half-mast nationwide.
Buhari is expected to be buried in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday.
The federal government extended its condolences to Buhari’s family, the people of Katsina, and all Nigerians, while urging national unity and peace in his memory.
