The Federal Government has rejected reports suggesting a systematic genocide against Christians in Nigeria, describing them as false and divisive.
The Federal Government on Sunday dismissed reports by some international platforms and online commentators alleging that terrorists are carrying out a systematic genocide against Christians in Nigeria.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, in a statement, described the claims as false and divisive.
“The Federal Government strongly condemns and categorically refutes recent allegations… suggesting that terrorists operating in Nigeria are engaged in a systematic genocide against Christians. Such claims are false, baseless, despicable, and divisive,” he said.
Idris stressed that insecurity in Nigeria should not be misrepresented as religiously motivated. According to him, terrorists attack Muslims, Christians and people of other identities indiscriminately.
He noted that security forces neutralised 13,543 terrorists and criminals between May 2023 and February 2025, rescuing nearly 10,000 hostages, while over 700 Boko Haram convictions have been secured.
Idris added that Nigeria’s leadership reflects inclusivity and urged international commentators to avoid sensational and divisive rhetoric.
