Mr Alausa said the N50m equity-free grant would support scalable student innovations while Google’s AI tools ensure efficient project evaluation.
The federal government has opened the application portal for the Students’ Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG), a scheme designed to turn student-led innovations into commercially viable ventures. Minister of Education Tunji Alausa, in a statement by ministry spokesperson Folasade Boriowo on Monday, said the initiative is a core component of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Mr Alausa said the grant aims to build a new generation of innovation-driven entrepreneurs. “The president had challenged us to look for the next moonshot within our tertiary institutions… This is an equity-free seed investment in Nigeria’s future,” he said. The scheme offers up to N50 million to student founders in STEMM fields and provides incubation, mentorship, and access to development tools.
He announced a partnership with Google, integrating Gemini AI into the application process and offering all applicants a one-year free Gemini Pro license. Students are urged to apply via the official portal and submit scalable, market-relevant proposals.
