The Federal Government has unveiled a new strategy to reduce reliance on imported healthcare products, curb outbound medical tourism, and generate jobs in the health sector. Speaking in Abuja, Dr. Abdu Mukhtar, National Coordinator of the Presidential Unlocking Healthcare Value-Chain Initiative, said the programme aims to boost local medical manufacturing and service delivery.
“One of the key milestones is a Presidential Executive Order eliminating VAT on raw materials and equipment supplies,” he noted. “This initiative is about creating a more efficient and self-reliant healthcare system.”
Convener of Impact Healthcare Group, Ayodele Cole Benson, cited over $1 billion lost annually to medical tourism. “This capital flight must stop,” he said. “By forming a unified healthcare group, we can ensure that quality care is accessible locally.”
Senator Samaila Kaila assured full legislative backing, stating, “We will wholeheartedly support initiatives like this to transform the country’s medical landscape for the better.”
