The Federal Government has set up a committee to address the payment of outstanding debts owed to power generation companies and create a lasting framework to prevent future accumulation.
The Federal Government has set up a committee to resolve the payment of outstanding debts owed to Power Generation Companies (GenCos) and establish sustainable payment structures to avoid future arrears.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power, Mahmuda Mamman, disclosed this in Abuja during the 10th anniversary of the Association of Power Generation Companies (APGC).
“In recognition of the critical importance of resolving this issue for the sustainability of our power sector, Mr. President has constituted a committee specifically mandated to address the payment of outstanding debts owed to the GenCos,” he said.
Mamman praised the GenCos for their “resilience and patriotism,” noting their continued operations despite severe liquidity challenges.
Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and APGC CEO, Joy Ogaji, both commended the GenCos for driving progress in the sector through collaboration and reform advocacy, stressing the need for a sustainable and transparent power industry.
