The Federal Government has announced the full closure of the Ijora Bridge in Lagos from April 27 for essential repair works. Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, revealed this during a bridge inspection on Monday.
She explained that the bridge, which connects Ijora Causeway to Apapa, required comprehensive repairs, including replacing faulty bearings beneath the deck. “This bridge has been awarded for some time now in different phases. We are now at the final phase, which involves lifting the entire bridge deck to change the faulty bearings beneath. A lot of the bearings are defective, and approximately 50 of them will be replaced across three sections,” Kesha said.
Acknowledging the disruption, Kesha assured the public that safety was a priority, emphasizing that the closure was necessary to prevent further deterioration. Motorists approaching from Ijora will be redirected through the Seven Up Roundabout to reconnect to Apapa, while heavy-duty vehicles will be diverted via Costain.
Kesha urged public cooperation and confirmed the repairs would be completed as planned, with minimal disruption.
