Flights from Nigeria are expected to face disruptions following Qatar’s decision to temporarily shut its airspace amid rising regional tensions.

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the move is “to ensure the safety of residents and visitors,” after Iran vowed retaliation for U.S. airstrikes on its nuclear sites.

Bankole Bernard, Group Managing Director of Finchglow Holdings, noted that the closure will affect flights operated by Qatar Airways from Nigeria. “This will affect flights from Nigeria. We are on the verge of third world war,” he said, adding, “Qatar Airways have not sent any message to us yet… but I know they would announce soon.”

Qatar Airways runs daily flights to Lagos and Abuja, and several weekly flights to Kano. Bernard warned, “This is a very tough time to fly.”

While Qatar emphasized the “security situation in the country is stable,” international flights have already started diverting due to the closure.
