Foreign investors have filed a $250 million lawsuit against the Nigerian government over alleged illegal demolition tied to the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway project.

A coalition of foreign investors under the Foreign Investors Network of Nigeria has filed a $250 million lawsuit against the Federal Government over the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway project. Filed at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi (FHC/L/CS/1063/25), the suit targets the Attorney General, Minister of Works David Umahi, and HITECH Construction.

The plaintiffs seek to halt the demolition of an 18.8-hectare plot in Okun-Ajah, Eti-Osa, and demand compensation, alleging the road was rerouted through their estate without notice. Their lawyer, Valerian Nadike, described the action as “executive lawlessness,” citing breaches of fair hearing under Sections 36 and 44 of the Constitution.

“The absence of formal acquisition, gazette, or compensation violates constitutional protections,” he argued, referencing Ojukwu v. Lagos State (1986).

The estate’s documents include a valid Certificate of Occupancy and survey plan.

The court has yet to set a hearing date. The case could shape future investor-government relations in Nigeria’s infrastructure drive.
