Mark Jacob says Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri should vacate his seat for allegedly ceasing to be a member of any political party.

A former National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mark Jacob, has said Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri should vacate his seat for allegedly ceasing to belong to any political party.

Jacob made the call on Tuesday during an interview on ARISE News, following reports that Diri resigned from the PDP last week without declaring a new party affiliation.

“Occupying that office without a political party is completely illegal,” Jacob said. “Without the PDP, Governor Diri would not have contested the election at all.”

He blamed weak constitutional provisions and judicial reluctance for encouraging political defections without consequence, adding that politicians “run to this market today and the other one tomorrow.”

Jacob warned that such behavior undermines Nigeria’s democracy and accountability, saying the political class had become “bigger than political parties, bigger than the courts, and even bigger then INEC.”
