Ex-Governor Joshua Dariye has petitioned the police after losing $290,000 to fraudsters who sold him a fake luxury wristwatch, with investigators tracing the funds to property and multiple bank accounts.

Former Plateau State Governor and convicted ex-senator, Chief Joshua Chibi Dariye, has petitioned the Nigeria Police over an alleged $290,000 fraud involving two men who sold him a counterfeit luxury wristwatch.

In a complaint dated November 19, 2024, Dariye accused Emmanuel Odogwu and Franklin Gideon (alias Kelvin) of conspiracy, breach of trust, and fraud after they posed as staff of a luxury watch company. “I paid them the money and they promised to supply same. They did supply the Polo wrist but I discovered it was fake,” Dariye wrote.

Police investigators later identified one suspect as Franklyn Ojo Jatto, who allegedly laundered the funds through multiple bank accounts and purchased property in Abuja. A freezing order has been obtained on his accounts, while police seek interim forfeiture of the assets.

Dariye, previously jailed for N1.16 billion ecological fund fraud, is now pushing for the suspects’ arrest and recovery of his money.
