A Lagos developer has accused a newly hired driver of fleeing with his vehicle just four days after resuming work, prompting a police investigation.
A Lagos-based developer, Olakanmi Ogundele, has alleged that a newly hired driver, identified as Olufemi Jogbodo, fled with his Gelly Saloon vehicle (AGL586GW) four days after resuming duty, according to a report from PUNCH Metro.
Ogundele stated on Sunday that the driver, who initially presented himself as Adeleye, was assigned to him by his company’s manager on November 18 after his former driver fell ill.
He explained that Jogbodo accompanied him on a trip to Ijebu Ode on the same day and returned with him to Lagos on November 20. Ogundele said the driver also took him to the office the next day but absconded with the vehicle while he was in a meeting. He recounted, “I was in a meeting in the office when he told the security that I sent him on an errand… That was how he went with the car and never came back.”
The matter was reported to the Ikoyi Police Division’s tactical team, who began tracking the suspect. A document detailing Jogbodo’s profile revealed he is 44 years old, resides in the Ikate area, and operates 11 bank accounts. Ogundele noted that the suspect’s relatives were briefly detained but later released.
He added that the manager who sourced the driver was arrested and interrogated for failing to verify the suspect’s identity. Plans are underway to place a bounty on Jogbodo to aid his arrest and recover the vehicle.
The state police spokesperson has yet to respond to enquiries.
