The Kwara State Police Command has arrested Adeola Badru for allegedly defrauding a political appointment seeker of ₦300 million under the guise of securing a federal board position.

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspected fraudster, Adeola Badru, for allegedly swindling a political appointment seeker of ₦300 million. Police said Badru posed as a seasoned politician in 2023, promising to secure his victim, Joseph Olugbenga, a seat on the board of the South West Development Commission.

Convinced by the suspect’s assurances, Olugbenga reportedly paid the sum in tranches before Badru fled to Ibadan, Oyo State, and blocked all communication. Realising he had been duped, Olugbenga petitioned the police in February 2023.

Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed the arrest on Thursday in Ilorin. “The Criminal Investigation Department swung into action and traced the suspect to his hideout in Ibadan, Oyo State, where he was arrested. During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily admitted to the crime,” Ojo said.

According to the police, forged documents and incriminating materials were recovered. Badru will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
