Dahbia Benkired has been given a rare whole-life sentence for the rape and murder of 12-year-old Lola Daviet in a case that shocked France. She is the first woman to receive the country’s harshest penalty.
A Paris court has sentenced Dahbia Benkired,27, to life in prison without parole for the 2022 rape and murder of 12-year-old Lola Daviet. The presiding judge described the acts as demonstrating “extreme cruelty” and “true torture.”
Benkired lured Lola into a Paris apartment, subjected her to a sexual assault, and killed her. The judge cited the “unspeakable psychological damage” to the family.
Before the verdict, Benkired told the court, “I ask for forgiveness and what I did is horrible. That’s all I have to say.” The prosecutor, who sought the maximum sentence, had argued, “Make no mistake no drug treatment can fundamentally transform Ms Benkired’s personality.”
