Fubara is understood to have visited the Federal Capital Territory Minister in his Abuja residence on Monday for peace talks.
Suspended Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, on Monday visited Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, at his Abuja residence as part of renewed peace efforts. Though the details of their conversation remain undisclosed, the meeting comes amid growing pressure from some political quarters for Fubara’s reinstatement.
Some of the governor’s supporters, including Senator Seriake Dickson, had hoped President Bola Tinubu would announce an end to the state’s emergency rule in his Democracy Day address. “The current situation in Rivers resembles military rule,” Dickson said, expressing disappointment at the President’s silence on the matter.
In response, the Rivers State caucus in the National Assembly slammed Dickson for “meddling,” defending the ongoing emergency rule. Leader of the caucus, Kingsley Chinda, said, “The emergency rule was clearly a matter of necessity,” adding that even the suspended governor had publicly expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the intervention.
