FRSC reports a 10% rise in road traffic crashes across Nigeria between January and September 2025, with over 3,900 deaths and 24,000 injuries recorded.
A total of 7,715 road traffic crashes occurred nationwide between January and September 2025, representing a 10.04% increase compared to 7,011 crashes recorded in the same period in 2024.
FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed disclosed this during the launch of the “ember months” campaign in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He added that 24,674 persons sustained injuries, up from 22,373 last year, while 3,915 deaths were recorded compared to 3,811 in 2024, indicating an 11.55% increase.
“In Rivers, within the same period, 15 persons were killed and 51 injured out of 47 reported cases,” he said, noting a 35.7% decrease in fatalities and a 37.5% decrease in injuries compared to last year’s figures.
Mohammed attributed the improvement in Rivers to better emergency response and awareness. He listed ongoing safety measures such as a mobile app for reporting reckless driving, community interventions, and public enlightenment campaigns.
The campaign themed “Take Responsibility for Your Safety. Stop Distracted Driving” will feature statewide activities to promote road safety and reduce fatalities.
