The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it will eliminate temporary driver’s licences as it rolls out a system for contactless biometric capture and on-the-spot printing to streamline licence issuance.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced plans to scrap the issuance of temporary driver’s licences, citing recent upgrades to its licence-printing infrastructure. The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, made the disclosure following an inspection of the new printing farm in the nation’s capital.
Mohammed stated, “Our printing facility has been upgraded to print an average of 15,000 driver’s licences daily. This production average will be increased to clear the backlog before the second week of November 2025.” He explained that the enhanced capacity is meant to eliminate longstanding delays in licence issuance.
Under the new system, the FRSC will deploy contactless biometric capture and on-the-spot licence printing. Mohammed said this will effectively “eliminate temporary licences, thereby signalling the beginning of a digitalised one-stop shop for processing driver’s licences.”
He also projected that the delays and other challenges associated with obtaining national driver’s licences would become a thing of the past with full implementation of the system.
