ABUJA – Suspended Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reopened reconciliation talks with his estranged political godfather, Nyesom Wike, amid renewed efforts to restore stability in the state.

Fubara visited the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory at his Abuja residence on Monday, though details of their discussion remain undisclosed. The visit followed rising calls for his reinstatement and the lifting of emergency rule in Rivers, which many expected President Bola Tinubu to announce during his Democracy Day address.

Senator Seriake Dickson, a Fubara supporter, decried the President’s silence on the issue, describing the current administration in Rivers as “military rule.” His comments drew fierce backlash from the Rivers State caucus in the National Assembly, led by Rep. Kingsley Chinda.

“Rivers State is not under military rule,” Chinda said. “Senator Dickson, a retired police corporal, is inciting unrest and misleading the public.”

The caucus accused Dickson of stoking ethnic tensions and misleading Fubara, while also urging security agencies to monitor his activities.

Meanwhile, Fubara has yet to engage key stakeholders or state legislators, raising concerns about the effectiveness of reconciliation.

“A return without reconciliation is meaningless,” said Dr. Chidi Lloyd. “Governance must take priority.”
