PDP suffers blow in Lagos as spokesman Hakeem Amode and other party leaders decamp to APC.
Lagos PDP spokesman Hakeem Amode and several top party leaders have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), collapsing the entire PDP structure in the state. The mass defection was announced at a press conference on Monday in Ikeja.
“Today, we have decided to collapse the entire PDP structure in Lagos State… to decamp en masse to the APC,” Amode said, citing poor leadership, lack of unity, and the party’s deviation from its founding ideals.
He added: “The PDP is in a coma and may not survive unless urgent measures are taken.”
Amode said the group was inspired by 2023 PDP governorship candidate Abdul-Azeez Adediran (Jandor), who recently joined the APC.
Former deputy governorship candidate Safurat Abdulkareem and ex-state deputy chairman Chief Ola Apena also dumped the PDP, alongside 2023 state assembly candidates and other key figures.
Jandor described the defection as “the collapse of PDP into APC,” calling the PDP a “sinking ship.”
The defectors pledged to work for APC’s success in 2027.
