The US has imposed a 15% tariff on Nigerian goods under a revised global trade policy signed by President Donald Trump.

United States President Donald Trump has imposed a 15% import tariff on Nigerian goods as part of a sweeping executive order targeting dozens of countries under a revised global trade policy. The new tariff, announced Thursday by the White House, follows the expiration of a 90-day extension granted in April for bilateral trade talks.

Nigeria was previously assigned a 14% tariff, but implementation was delayed. The updated order places Nigeria among several African and non-African countries facing a flat 15% rate. According to the White House, the measure aligns with Trump’s “reciprocal tariffs” strategy aimed at curbing unfair trade practices.

“Nigeria and West African countries made efforts to boost trade ties with the United States,” said Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar. “But the travel bans and broader restrictions affected the process.”

The full list includes varying tariffs, with South Africa facing 30%, India 25%, and Brazil now under a 50% rate. Canada and Mexico also face steep tariffs.
