A 20-year-old Gazan woman evacuated to Italy for urgent treatment has died from malnutrition, hospital officials said.

The patient, identified as Marah Abu Zuhri, arrived in Pisa on Wednesday with her mother under a medical evacuation scheme organized by the Italian government. The University Hospital of Pisa said she went into cardiac arrest and died on Friday, less than two days after her arrival.

Hospital staff reported that she had suffered “a severe loss of weight and muscle,” echoing UN warnings of widespread hunger in Gaza.

Since the start of Israel’s war in Gaza, more than 180 children and adults have been flown to Italy for treatment. According to Italy’s foreign ministry, 31 patients and companions arrived in Rome, Milan, and Pisa this week with conditions including congenital diseases, wounds, and amputations.

In the UK, MPs urged the government to admit sick and injured children from Gaza “without delay.” The Home Office said several hundred children would be evacuated “at pace” once biometric checks are complete.

The Hamas-run health ministry says more than 250 people have died of hunger and over 60,000 have been killed since the war began.
