German Foreign Minister stressed that Iran poses a risk to Israel, the region, and Europe, and that talks are crucial for de-escalation.
Germany, France and Britain are offering Iran immediate negotiations over its nuclear programme to prevent further escalation in the Middle East, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said on Saturday.
Speaking to ARD public broadcaster, Wadephul, currently on a diplomatic visit to the region, said, “Germany, together with France and Britain are ready. We’re offering Iran immediate negotiations about the nuclear programme, I hope (the offer) is accepted.”
He stressed that Iran poses a risk to Israel, the region, and Europe, and that talks are crucial for de-escalation.
In Oman on Sunday, Wadephul noted: “There’s a shared expectation that within the next week, a serious attempt must be made on both sides to interrupt the spiral of violence.”
Regarding Gaza, he described the humanitarian situation as “unacceptable,” urging Israel to grant full access to aid groups.
“The hunger, the dying, the suffering of the people in Gaza must come to an end,” he said, while demanding Hamas release all hostages.
