Djiku’s goal lifted Ghana to a vital 1-0 win over Mali, keeping them top of Group I in the World Cup qualifiers.

Defender Alexander Djiku’s second-half strike secured a narrow 1-0 victory for Ghana against Mali in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Monday night at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The win puts the Black Stars at the top of Group I with 19 points, easing pressure after their disappointing 1-1 draw with Chad last week. Comoros’ 2-0 win over the Central African Republic had raised the stakes, making victory essential for Otto Addo’s side.

Despite a strong defensive display from Mali, Djiku bundled home Jordan Ayew’s corner in the 47th minute, igniting wild celebrations from the home crowd. Ghana created more chances through Mohammed Kudus and Antoine Semenyo but failed to extend their lead.

Mali pressed hard in the closing minutes and appealed for a late penalty, but the referee waved play on, prompting protests from the visitors. The result leaves Ghana well placed with two games remaining against Chad and the Central African Republic.
