Ghana’s government has threatened to shut down DStv services over subscription pricing disputes, warning MultiChoice to comply or face regulatory enforcement.
The Ghanaian government has threatened to shut down DStv services, accusing MultiChoice of disrespecting citizens by refusing to reduce subscription prices.
Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, issued the warning in a statement on Friday via his official X account.
MultiChoice, in a September 5 statement, said it “continues to engage with the Minister in a bid to find an amicable solution” but stressed that it “has not agreed to a price reduction.”
Reacting, George said: “Let me be clear, I have no intention to continue tolerating the disrespect to Ghanaians by DStv. If MultiChoice is not interested… we would proceed to effect the shutdown tomorrow as indicated.”
He added that no company is above the law, directing the National Communications Authority to enforce compliance if necessary.
George emphasized that Ghana remains open to businesses that respect its laws and institutions, but warned that MultiChoice must return to the negotiation table on pricing.
